About the teacher training centre

IH Almaty is a large school, with centres in various neighbourhoods around the city.

Our school was approved by Cambridge Assessment English (former ESOL) to deliver CELTA in 2007, and later, in 2019, all DELTA Modules: M1, M2 and M3 were added to our range of international professional development courses.

In 2009 we received accreditation for running the IHCYLT-International House Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teens, and, since that time, we have been successfully training both novice and experienced teachers in delivering YL classes communicatively.

Our teachers teach general english courses for adults and younger learners, exam-classes, and business English courses for companies and executives.

How ever you would like to develop your teaching skills, there will be an opportunity at IH Almaty! Staff have the opportunity to move between different areas of the company, and academic and support staff have room for development and promotion. Teachers & trainers are encouraged to give seminars, write articles, conduct action research, etc, as part of their own CPD.

Come to Almaty to find ten differences between mountains and hills and do your CELTA or DELTA with an excellent international team of trainers!

What is DELTA Module 3?

DELTA (Diploma in teaching English to speakers of other languages) covers advanced theory and practice to help you develop in your teaching career. You need at least one year’s experience to make the most of it.

There are three modules, which you can take in any order.

DELTA Module 3 is independent research on either an ELT specialism or management.  It is assessed by a written dissertation.

For more detail about DELTA and DELTA module 3, read our full guide here.

Tutors at this training centre

Aleksandra Kulikova

Aleksandra has worked on more than 50 CELTA courses in Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Singapore. She also delivers IH CAM and IH CYLT courses. Aleksandra's advice is that teacher training courses are often very intensive so try to free up your schedule of any other commitments as much as you can – you're going to thank yourself for it later!

Adam Besjovec

Adam has had a lifelong career in EFL teaching and teacher training. His advice, both for success on the course and success in your career, is to be open-minded and don’t be afraid to experiment – it’s all about the development

Branislava Jovanovic

Branislava has worked on CELTA and other teacher training courses since 2011 in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Mexico and Peru. About looking for your first job, she says find a job with a school that has a culture of continuous learning and take responsibility for your own professional development. Reflect, experiment, have fun!

James Harland

James worked in the non-profit sector before changing career to EFL teaching and teacher training. He advises his students to develop your own areas of specialist interest, and see where in the world that takes you. For me that has been business, academic and aviation English, and living in Germany and Kazakhstan, but you can find the mix of content and location to fit your own interests.

Zhanziya Sundetova

Zhanziya changed career to teaching and teacher training from finance and private equity. Her advice for an interesting and rewarding TEFL career is to never stop being curious. It is not only about using new methods and fun activities in class, but also getting to know the learners and cater for their interests and goals, so that the learning and teaching processes are mutually enjoyable and fruitful.
