CELTA advice from Amir Landa

Amir Landa is CELTA tutor at IH Kyiv in Ukraine

How long were you an EFL teacher, and how long have you been a teacher trainer?

I have been teaching EFL for more than 10 years; a teacher trainer since 2012.

Did you have a different career before EFL?

Yes, I was a live audio technician in New York and Massachusetts.

What are your hopes/aspirations for your trainees?

I hope they have a fun and informative experience and walk out of the course as more confident and knowledgeable professionals.

When you were an EFL teacher what did you like most, and how do you bring that into the classroom for your trainees?

The best thing about teaching and training is working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and with a wide variety of interests. I encourage my trainees to consider their learners at each step of their planning and to enjoy and react to what the learners say and do in the classroom.

What advice would you give your trainees for successfully completing the course?

Keep an open mind. Try new things.

What advice would you give your trainees for an interesting and rewarding career?

Keep pushing yourself to keep current and experiment teaching in different contexts. Never stop learning yourself.
