Job Description
We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, whether you are newly qualified or a teacher with some experience, who want to join a school where they will develop and gain experience.
IH Brno is well-known locally, and in the International House network, for its teacher development program. Our teachers have mentors, weekly teacher development sessions, personal development plans and regular peer observations.
You will have around 24-26 teaching hours of English classes (one teaching hour is 45 minutes) across a variety of contexts and levels both at school and off-site - although Brno is quite compact and travel times are generally quite low whether from school or home. There is also 2 - 4 hours of development and other duties, such as staff meetings. There is no teaching at the weekends.
Our contract rubs September 2023-June 2025. We would like our teachers to stay for 2 years because of so much investment we have in their professional development. However, if after a year the teacher decides to leave, we can discuss that during the professional development interview.
Holidays:
2 weeks of paid holidays at Christmas and 1 week of paid holiday in Spring (Spring Holiday)
National holidays: Paid national holidays
Benefits:
Language classes: 1x90m Czech for Foreigners paid by the school
One off relocation fee (3000 czk net)
Meal vouchers: 60 czk per every worked day
Accommodation: The school will help you find accommodation where possible
Accommodation allowance: To be discussed with the successful candidates
What our teachers say about us:
"I moved to ILC IH Brno in September of 2018. I found the experience of working at ILC IH Brno invaluable since this is where I developed and improved as a teacher the most as I received the most tailored pedagogical support in areas I needed, such as teaching VYL, YL, etc. As a contract teacher I feel that now, after living here for 4,5 years, I have developed a much deeper understanding and practices of teaching a wide variety of ages and class types. Additionally, there have been a lot of career progression opportunities presented to me - mentoring newly recruited teachers, designing and executing teacher training sessions, presenting at conferences etc. I would highly recommend any teacher who wants to take their teaching practices onto a higher level to join our team".
Ani Aloyan, Armenia
"I arrived in Brno January 2023. I've learnt a lot in these two months. The teacher development sessions on Fridays are a great opportunity to improve our teaching skills. The team is welcoming and has helped me not only concerning pedagogical issues but also with general situations, such as finding a flat to rent, opening a bank account, etc. At ILC Brno, I got the chance to teach different levels and ages and I have autonomy to plan my lessons and use my creativity to the fullest. Here, your experience and effort are acknowledged: I feel honored that I was invited to deliver some workshops to my colleagues in ILC Brno and ILC Torún. I highly recommend any teacher who wants to grow professionally and personally to join our team".
Fernanda Borda, Brazil
"Although I’ve only been working at ILC IH Brno for a short while, it has definitely been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my teaching career so far. The range of courses offered ensures that no two days are ever the same, I have a nice mix of adult, YL, exam and company classes. The opportunities for professional development are also great, with regular in-house training sessions, conferences and mentoring with fellow teachers.
Speaking of which, the staffroom has a great, international team who are always happy to discuss language points and share lesson ideas. There is a truly supportive atmosphere here, and the school makes every effort to help newbies settle in.
Not that this is something anyone should be concerned about in Brno - as the Czech Republic’s second city, its liveable size makes it a very comfortable place to get around with plenty of affordable places to unwind".
