Salary
The base salary starts at 4660PLN (Gross)/3515PLN (net) increasing (depending on experience working for other IH schools or whether they are IH Torun returning teachers or whether they hold the DELTA certificate). 1365PLN is deducted per month from this salary for the accommodation flat cost in a single room shared with another teacher. There are also additional increments (e.g. overtime, travel time, exam teachers, etc).

 

Essential Requirements 

  • You must have a CELTA, Trinity TESOL, or equivalent initial teaching qualification
  • The role is open only to those with the right to work in the EU or to British citizens
  • Experience teaching YLs and Teenagers is an advantage.

Job Description 

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated teachers with CELTA/CertTESOL who wants to pursue teaching English as their career and are looking for teacher development. The positions are for an immediate start and lasting until 30th June 2026. If you are looking to develop as a teacher, then IH Torun is the school where you should work. We offer teacher development sessions once a week as well as weekly free basic conversational Polish lessons with a qualified Polish teacher. You will be teaching up to 25 Teaching hours of English (25 x 45 minutes) each week in a fun, friendly and supportive school. Your classes could include a mixture of Young Learners (7-12) as well as teenagers (13-17) and adult 1-1 students/group classes at a variety of CEFR levels. Twice a week you may also have to commute to our satellite school in Inowroclaw (45 minutes away). There is no weekend teaching, though on some Saturdays (no more than 4 a year) you'll be involved in some social events. 
We welcome enthusiastic teachers who have some experience, though newly qualified will also be considered. 

Torun is a great place to live and work; certainly it's a home away from home! IH Torun is a small school but is very well-known within the ELT community for its great focus on teacher development. In 2023 we actually celebrated our 30th anniversary. 

Every year, we organise the IH Torun Teacher Training Day which has had some big name ELT presenters in the past such as Jeremy Harmer, Scott Thornbury, Jill Hadfield, Adrian Underhill, Jon Hird, Katherine Bilsborough, John Hughes, Hugh Dellar and Marjorie Rosenberg. We also offer extensive CPD opportunities.

- Shared accommodation in single bedrooms in a local, fully-furnished flat provided by the school. If the teacher prefers to search and pay for their own flat then there is a monthly self-accommodating increment on top of the base salary 
- Return flights from within Europe. The one way ticket is reimbursed at the start of the contract and again at the end of the contract 
- All teachers returning to IH Torun receive a monthly increment of 10% on top of their basic salary 
- Having IH Torun on your CV looks great as we are highly regarded within the International House organisation

Other Benefits

Flights: We cover return flights from within Europe with a low-cost airline for approx. 500PLN per flight. The one-way inbound flight is reimbursed at the start of the contract and the outbound return flight is reimbursed at the end of the contract.

Accommodation: Accommodation is provided in a single room in a shared flat (shared with one other teacher). The flat is a 20 mins walk away from the school. All flats are modern and fully-furnished. 

Holiday: Holiday pay is included. Holidays include Christmas, Easter and Ferie (the Polish winter break in January 2025).

About the school and city

Opened in 1993, IH Torun has approximately 14 teachers, and 450 students in and out of school and some in-company. Ages range from 5 to adult, divided into 3 age streams. Mostly it is general English, but there are special classes such as Cambridge exam preparation and exam club (First, Advanced, Proficiency). The school also has a branch in the small town of Inowroclaw, where some teachers spend two afternoons a week.

The school is situated 5 minutes walk from the old town. It boasts its own computer room with internet access, a small teachers' kitchen, and two teachers' rooms. There is a popular social programme for staff and students including pub quiz nights, karaoke evenings and kids' parties.

The school has a friendly, open atmosphere and offers daily teacher support from experienced staff. There is also free Polish lessons once a week for our teachers.

There are weekly teacher development sessions led by senior staff and regular teacher observations to help you improve your teaching. The management is always approachable and helpful, operating an open-door policy.

Every year, we organise the IH Torun Teacher Training Day which attracts participants from all over Poland and eastern Europe as well as some big name EFL presenters. Past presenters include Adrian Underhill, Jon Hird, Katherine Bilsborough, John Hughes, Hugh Dellar and Marjorie Rosenberg. This year we look forward to welcoming Scott Thornbury to IH Torun!
