Xana de Nagy is a CELTA tutor at IH Lisbon in Portugal

How long were you an EFL teacher, and how long have you been a teacher trainer?

I have been a teacher since 1983 and a trainer since 1990

Did you have a different career before EFL?

No, I've always worked in EFL.

What are your hopes/aspirations for your trainees?

That they feel as excited about teaching and working with learners as I do.

When you were an EFL teacher what did you like most, and how do you bring that into the classroom for your trainees?

The contact with different people – every lesson, every day is completely different and we can learn so much from our learners and trainees.

What advice would you give your trainees for successfully completing the course?

Listen carefully, be open, learn from the students, your peers, your teaching and the tutors. Work hard but most of all try to enjoy the experience.

What advice would you give your trainees for an interesting and rewarding career?

Aim to get a job that allows you to teach a variety of types of classes, different age groups and give you opportunities to develop as a teacher.
