Job Description 

English Teacher – Join Our Team!

We’re looking for a motivated, professional English teacher to join our supportive and experienced team in Portugal for the 2026–27 academic year. If you enjoy working with students of different ages and levels, value professional development, and want to be part of a genuinely collaborative school environment, we’d love to hear from you! This is a full-time position that includes 20 teaching hours per week.

  • Tuesday to Saturday
  • Most weekday classes take place in the late afternoon/ evening, with some in the morning or the early afternoon
  • Saturday classes run from 09:00 to 13:00

🌟  What We’re Looking For:

  • At least one years’ full-time teaching experience
  • Experience working with young learners and teenagers (or a strong interest in developing this skill) 
  • Ability to inspire, manage and motivate students
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, and sense of responsibility
  • A proactive, positive approach to teaching, students and colleagues
  • Excellent communicate skills
  • Understanding of students’ needs and expectations
  • Good administrative skills (keeping records, writing reports)
  • Experience teaching Cambridge PET and First exam preparation (preferred)

IH Torres Vedras has been a trusted name in language education in the community since 1990 and currently has a diverse student body of 400+ students, with around 70% aged between 9 and 18. We enjoy an excellent reputation locally, and many of our students are second generations of the same families who have studied here.

There are two premises, both of which are a few minutes’ walk from the city centre. Most teaching takes place in IH One – a modern ground floor purpose-built school with eight classrooms; IH Two is also used as an exams and teacher training centre. We enjoy an excellent reputation locally, and many of our students are second generations of the same families who have studied here. 

Torres Vedras is a small but lively city within easy distance of Lisbon (40 minute bus ride) and 20 minutes from the coast.  It has numerous good-quality and reasonably-priced restaurants, lovely parks and a sizeable shopping centre with cinemas. Its massive Carnaval celebrations are fêted as ‘the most Portuguese of Portuguese carnivals’.  It is steeped in history, being one of the focal points during the Napoleonic wars in the Iberian Peninsular.
