Job Description 

International House Budapest’s experience in teaching general and business English spans over four decades and includes teacher training and travel services. We are language education leaders not only in Hungary but also in the region. Our clients include market-leading companies from all segments. Our teachers and teachers trainers help our students achieve and often exceed their aims and goals and guide them in successfully conquering all levels from beginners to native-level proficiency.

We are looking for an experienced and suitably qualified Academic Manager / Director of Studies to lead our schools in Budapest. Main place of work is on the Buda side (Retek Street) but the role-holder will be required to work from other venues. Level of employment is dependent on experience and qualifications. We're also very open to training the right candidates to become CELTA and/or DELTA trainers in the long run. We can help you grow into further academic or operational roles.

The role includes but is not limited to:

  • Maintaining our high teacher and teaching standards and supporting teachers in their development 
  • Effective communication and building bridges between teachers, management, clients and other stakeholders 
  • Placement testing new students, student allocation and timetabling and tracking during their studies 
  • Recruitment of new teachers, inductions, observations, and staff development 
  • Leading on online and offline material creation, coordination of production, testing and tracking 
  • Leading, coordination, and management of the teaching staff
  • Maintaining and improving quality standards and leading on accreditations 
  • Course organisation and timetabling on all our teaching courses and room and teacher allocation 
  • Other ad-hoc delegated tasks, related to teaching or running of the school

  • Pedagogical and/or andragogical qualifications and relevant experience in previous roles , e.g., Cambridge DELTA or Trinity DipTESOL 
  • Already existing legal rights to work in the EU and Hungary in a full-time, face-to-face role


  • Cambridge DELTA / Trinity Diploma in TESOL or similar (or in progress and/or willing to undertake) 
  • Experience in management and/or teacher training, and materials/learning design

Other Benefits

Visa: Due to the job posting, candidates will need to have pre-existing rights to work in Hungary and the EU.

Holiday: 2 weeks paid holiday at Christmas, 1 week in spring and 1 or 2 weeks upon completion of contract depending on the number of hours taught
