About the teacher training centre

International House (IH) Newcastle is in a Grade I and II listed building. It has 16 classrooms with access to a large Personal Study Programme computer suite as well as a spacious students' room/café. The school is in the heart of the city, close to a wide choice of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars.

CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) Methodology

This course aims to train teachers in the methodology of CLIL . It combines a focus on developing an understanding of the key principles and terminology of CLIL with an emphasis on exploring practical ideas to help better integrate the teaching of language and content in the classroom. The group input sessions follow a loop input structure so course participants can experience a wide sample of activities that they can take with them to their own teaching context.

I have been teaching since 2005 and started teacher training in 2012. Before this, I worked for an international development charity in London for 2 years whilst finishing my Master’s degree.

Teaching English can equip students with the skills and qualifications that they need to really make a difference to their own lives, and those of their families and communities. It’s a passport to a better life for many people. The more teachers – and the more good teachers we have – the more that can happen.

I briefly worked for a Bank in London, but was quick to feel the pull of teaching so the bulk of my working life has been spent teaching English and training teachers. I have been an EFL teacher for 13 years and a teacher trainer for 5.

I hope to equip trainees with the skills, techniques and ideas that will help them as they move into teaching English post-course. I hope to light a spark of passion for teaching and studying language and so trainees can approach their teaching with enthusiasm, excitement and inspiration.
